US Visa Delays Reach Crisis Level

The average wait time for a US visa has doubled since 2014 and is up 46% over 2016, Quartz reports, citing calculations by the American Immigration Lawyers Association. This has led to “crisis-level delays” in the issuance of green cards, and visas for trafficking victims and immigrant workers. Part of the reason, AILA says, are policy choices such as in-person interviews for employment-based green cards. Last week, the Trump administration reversed the order of the H-1B lottery to favour foreign applicants with US degrees.
